7 Ways to Clarify Your Values:

Values are a guiding compass for our actions.

But it can be hard to define your values.

I didn't know what my values were when I was younger.

But answering questions and talking to my parents helped me figure it out.

Here are 7 tips to clarify your values.

1) Do a thought experiment

What would you take if your house was on fire?

What 3 items would you take with you to an island?

2) Observe your behavior

Color code your calendar activities based on how they affect your energy.

  • Green = energy gain

  • Red = energy drain

  • Yellow = neutral

3) Learn from others

Read books.

Meet new people.

Listen to cool podcasts.

4) Explore new possibilities

Find play in your life.

Try new and exciting activities.

Expand your definitions of concepts like work.

5) Connect with your purpose

You are more likely to complete tasks that align with your purpose.

My current purpose in life is to learn new things, help others, and have fun.

6) Ask probing questions

What makes you happy?

What are your non-negotiables?

What would be written on your billboard?

7) Take note of procrastination

Procrastination can be a helpful sign.

It might mean you're not working on the right things.

Values TL; DR:

  1. Do a thought experiment

  2. Observe your behavior
