5 Essential Steps to Build Your Newsletter:

A lot of people are building an audience on social media platforms like Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram.

Growing your brand on these platforms has multiple benefits:

  • Learn new things

  • Meet like-minded people

  • Sell targeted products and services

But there is one problem — a social media audience is rented. If the platform disappears, so does your audience.

That's why building an owned audience through a newsletter is essential for all content creators.

Here are 5 essential steps for anyone who is starting a newsletter.

1) Pick the right platform for you

Each platform has different features, so make sure you choose the one that suits your needs. I like beehiiv because it's free for up to 2500 subscribers, the analytics are great, and customer support is responsive.

Other viable options are ConvertKit and Substack.

2) Create a structure

Developing a structure that you follow for each edition of your newsletter has two main benefits.

Firstly, it makes it easier for you to consistently publish long form content. Secondly, it creates a familiar feel for readers.

3) Test your subject lines

Subject lines greatly impact your open rate and therefore your click through rate.

Use free tools like Omnisend or Send Check It to optimize your subject lines.

4) Ask for feedback

Your newsletter is built for your readers. It's important to make sure you are addressing their curiosities and helping them grow.

You can add a sentence about feedback at the bottom of your newsletter or ask for feedback on social media.

5) Funnel your audience

Make sure you leverage your social media audience to grow your newsletter.

People who follow you on social media are already interested in your content, so they'd  enjoy your newsletter. I've found DMs to be the most effective way to grow my newsletter.

Newsletter TL; DR:

  • Pick the right platform for you

  • Create a structure

  • Test your subject lines

  • Ask for feedback

  • Funnel your audience

Tool of the Week — Chatsonic:

Chatsonic is an alternative to ChatGPT. Here are a few of its features that I love.

1) 25 free generations per month

Chatsonic provides 25 free questions per month. But if you need more, you can sign up with another email address.

2) 13 different personalities

You can customize the personality that answers your question. This helps you get more relevant answers.

3) Integrated image generation

Chatsonic also does image generation, so you don't have to use another platform.

4) Easy to share

You can edit, copy, download, and share specific responses or entire conversations with fries, colleagues, family, and followers.

5) Voice commands

Chatsonic uses voice commands so you don't even have to type.

Chatsonic TL; DR:

  • 25 free generations per month
